For the past 44 years, the Wyoming State Forestry Division and the Board of Charities and Reform (later�incorporated into�the Department of Corrections) have combined efforts and resources in the development and support of a Forestry Conservation Camp Program manned by inmates from a Wyoming Department of Corrections facility. Prior to the authorization of the Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp by the legislature, the Wyoming State Forestry Division, in conjunction with the Board of Charities and Reforms, operated fire and conservation camps in the Black Hills area as early as the 1960�s. These camps were manned by a forestry technician, one correctional officer, and six inmates from the Wyoming State Penitentiary.

The Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution (WMCI) is a medium security men�s facility. It is specifically designed to serve as the primary intake and assessment center for male inmates not sentenced to death. It will serve as a primary education and treatment center for inmates identified as requiring high levels of protective custody, medical, mental health, dental, substance abuse, life skills, cognitive/behavioral, and/or sex offender treatment services.� It is located in Torrington, Wyoming.

The Wyoming State Penitentiary consists of a high security/special needs prison (referred to as the South Facility), the administration and warehouse/maintenance buildings, and the Central Production Facility (kitchen/laundry). The South Facility was originally designed to be in addition to the North Facility, a prison that was opened in 1980 that housed approximately 500 medium security inmates. Due to life/safety issues, the North Facility cell and office areas were vacated at the same time the South Facility opened on July 21, 2001. All industries and vocational spaces at the North Facility were closed as well.The Wyoming Medium Correctional Facility is being built in Torrington, Wyoming. It will open in January 2010 and will have the capacity to house 700 medium custody male inmates. It will then perform the department's initial reception and assessment, removing that function from the Wyoming State Penitentiary. When the WMCI opens, all inmates currently being housed out-of-state will return to Wyo

The Wyoming Women�s Center (WWC) is a full service facility addressing incarcerated offenders. It is the sole adult female facility within the State of Wyoming. WWC houses all custody levels, minimum through maximum offenders. The institution is located on 71 acres of state property and consists of two buildings. The main building includes inmate housing, recreation, industries, maintenance, education and administration. The second building houses WWC�s Aquaculture program.

The Campbell County Detention Center is a 128- bed podular designed, semi-direct, supervised facility.� The facility consists of 14 cell blocks.� Each cell block houses eight to sixteen inmates in individual cells and contains a communal day room.� The day room gives the inmates the opportunity to watch television and make telephone calls.� It is also where the inmates eat their meals.

The center houses both pre- and post-convicted prisoners charged with municipal, state and federal criminal violations.� Contracts are currently held with the Wyoming Department of Corrections, Marshals Service, Immigration & Custom Enforcement, United States Air Force, Torrington Police Department, Lingle Police Department and various other Wyoming Sheriff�s Offices to house prisoners.

The Teton County Detention Center is located at 175 South Willow Street in Jackson, Wyoming. Construction of the Detention Center was completed in 1986 with a 35 bed capacity. In 2003 10 beds were added to raise the capacity to the current level of 45. The Detention Center houses pre trial as well as sentenced inmates for the following agencies: Teton County Sheriff�s Office, Jackson Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming Game and Fish, and the United States Marshal's Office.
