The Anamosa State Penitentiary is a maximum/medium security institution that currently houses over 1,200 inmates. Through a contract with a local community college, inmates may pursue training in welding, horticultural and janitorial services, earn a high school diploma or GED, special education for eligible individuals, or take classes leading to an Associate of Arts degree. The Baltimore City Correctional Center (BCCC) is a minimumsecurity institution with an operating capacity for 508 adult male inmates classified to minimum and prerelease security. The Baltimore PreRelease Unit (BPRU) is a work release facility managed by a facility administrator reporting to the warden of the Metropolitan Transition Center (MTC). The facility has both dormitories and rooms. All inmates are transferred to the facility with work release status and are required to pay room and board once gainfully employed.
The Baltimore PreRelease Unit for Women (BPRUW) aspires to prepare female inmates for reintegration to the community via programs, work release and staff interactions. Staff are also provided with gender responsive training.BPRUW is a one story brick structure situated on approximately 2.5 acres and surround by commercial and residential establishments. Bent County Correctional Facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association. Numerous staff at BCCF also have been awarded professional certifications from ACA. BCCF has partnered with the State of Colorado since 1993 to hold male offenders. Bent County Correctional Facility staff and offenders also operate a CHOICES program focused on educating youth throughout the Arkansas Valley. The Donald T. Bergin Correctional Institution serves as a pre-release center for inmates who are approaching the end of their sentence or a period of supervised community placement. Bibb County Correctional Facility is located within the city limits of Brent, Alabama, on approximately 250 acres of rural wetlands. Plans for Bibb originated during July 1991 of the Governor Guy Hunt-Commissioner Morris Thigpen administrative tenure, and construction began and progressed during the 1993-1994 Governor Jim Folsom-Commissioner Tommy Herring administration. In 1995, construction was halted during the early part of Governor Fob James-Commissioner Ron Jones administration and resumed under Commissioner Joe Hopper. In July 1997, inmates from the State Cattle Ranch and Elmore Correctional Facility were being transported daily to assist the contractors in the construction of the facility. The Bridgeport Correctional Center is a level 4 high-security facility which confines both pretrial and sentenced offenders. The Centennial Correctional Facility (CCF) is a Level IV security correctional institution for adult male offenders, with a current facility capacity of 336 Close Custody offenders with 169 staff who work directly with offenders and 16 other staff. CCF is located on the East Complex sitting on approximately 22 acres of land with a total gross square footage 166,085.
Central Florida Reception Center opened in August of 1988 originally as Orange Correctional Institution. Orange C.I. was opened as a close custody, adult male, program oriented institution. Before OCI was fully functional, the mission was changed to a reception center, and thus the new name of Central Florida Reception Center. Today CFRC houses male inmates. Bridges of Orlando Work Release Center, Kissimmee Work Release Center, Orlando Transition Center, Orlando Work Release Center, and The Transition House, Inc. are under the supervision of CFRC.
The Central Maine Pre-Release Center opened in Hallowell in 1979, on the grounds of the former Stevens School complex, under the jurisdiction of the then Department of Mental Health and Corrections.Prisoners at this unit participate in public restitution work crews and a work release program. The public restitution program has provided approximately 22,000 man hours of free labor annually to citizens of the greater Kennebec County region. The facility is also the site for phase 2 of the Departments' residential substance abuse treatment program (Transitional Therapeutic Program).
The Central Laundry Facility relinquished its laundry operations to Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE). Effective July 1, 2009 the facility was renamed Central Maryland Correctional Facility (CMCF). However, CMCF inmates continue to serve state agencies by providing laundry services to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene facilities.CMCF also operates a ResidentialSubstance Abuse Treatment Program (RSAT) for inmates. The Corrigan Correctional Institution and the Radgowski Correctional Institution were consolidated in May 2001 as the Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center. This facility confines both pretrial and sentenced offenders. It serves superior courts in Danielson, New London, Norwich and Windham.Programs offered to offenders in the Corrigan Correctional Institution included an extensive anger management curriculum for inmates with a history of violent tendencies. A close monitoring unit is maintained in order to segregate those offenders who have been classified as members of gangs. The Safer Foundation's Crossroads ATC center has a 330-bed capacity and is located at 3210 W. Arthington, on the west side of Chicago. Crossroads ATC provides programming for residents at the point of entry. A series of comprehensive assessments is given to every resident. The results allow staff to develop effective programming to meet their needs. These programs are designed to provide skills, education, opportunities and resources in an attempt to reduce recidivism. The facility consists of one building with four community-style living units, which house general population offenders.
The Crowley County Correctional Facility is designed with a campus style layout. There are a total of ten buildings, containing 349,611 square feet which are located within a 22-acre secured perimeter. Leading up the driveway to the facility from State Highway 96 is a fruit tree orchard consisting of approximately 1900 peach, apple, pear and cherry trees. CCCF is owned by the Corrections Corporation of America.
Danville Correctional Center is a Level 3 high medium-security adult male institution. The facility has 17 buildings, which encompasses a total of 85 acres. The living units consist of three X-type housing units, one T-type housing unit, one receiving unit, one segregation unit and a 15-bed health care unit. The center houses general population inmates.
The Decatur ATC is a Level 8 adult residential facility operated and administered by the Illinois Department of Corrections. The institution is housed in a single-story building. The center houses adult male felons completing the remaining three to 24 months of their sentence.
Delaware has four adult correctional facilities. The Baylor Women's Correctional Institution is Delaware's only female correctional facility. The James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution and the Sussex Correctional Institution provide incarceration at all security levels to male populations (HRYCI accommodates a small juvenile population in the Young Criminal Offenders Program-YCOP).Delaware Department of Correction facilities have a design capacity of 6,469 and a temporary maximum capacity of 7,005. The latest population figures are updated monthly . Currently, the Department of Correction experiences approximately 20,000 admissions and 20,000 releases a year.
The Baylor Women's Correctional Institution (BWCI) - the only women's prison in the state - opened December 29, 1991. The facility houses both pre-trial and sentenced adult females at minimum, medium, and maximum security levels.BWCI provides programming at all security levels. Programming provides offenders with opportunities to gain knowledge, acquire skills and learn an alternative life-style.BWCI provides treatment services, religious services, drug therapy, educational/vocational programs, counseling, and recreation.
The facility currently houses 480 inmates with a staff of 131 line staff and 7 other staff. Many inmates assigned to DCC work off-grounds in assignments for local, state, federal and non-profit agencies, saving Colorado taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars each year.
This facility was established in 2008 to prepare inmates for work release and aid in a successful re-entry into society. This facility opens in February 2009. Bartow Work Release Center, Tarpon Springs Work Release Center, Largo Residential Re-Entry Center, Suncoast Work Release Center (Male) and St. Petersburg Work Release Center are under the supervision of Demilly CI.
DRDC is the first stop for all offenders sentenced to the Department of Corrections. The facility is located on Smith Road, just east of the Denver County Jail. Staff at the 480 bed maximum security facility process, test, and classify offenders entering the system, prior to their placement at one of the Department's permanent facilities. Offenders are given a complete diagnostic evaluation including medical, dental, mental health assessment, and personal needs assessments, as well as academic and vocational testing, initial classification, and a custody level recommendation. The facility also houses a 36 bed Infirmary.
This facility was established in 1996 to house 941 inmates and all inmates were transferred from Desoto C.I. while it is being renovated. Desoto Work Camp and Arcadia Road Prison are under the supervision of Desoto Annex.

The Downeast Correctional Facility, located at the former Bucks Harbor Air Force Station, was established by the Legislature in September 1984. Funds were appropriated to purchase the facility for the confinement and rehabilitation of persons who have been duly sentenced and committed to the Department of Corrections and began receiving inmates in June 1985. The facility is a medium/minimum security institution with a prisoner count of 148.
Pinckneyville Correctional Center is also the parent facility for the DuQuoin Impact Incarceration Program, which houses an average of 200 offenders participating in a short-term paramilitary type rehabilitation program. The DuQuoin Impact Incarceration Program functions as a boot camp, whereby eligible offenders approved by the sentencing courts and accepted by the department shall upon successful completion of the program requirements have their sentences reduced to time served and shall serve a term of mandatory supervised release.
The Dwight Correctional Center, originally the Oakdale Reformatory for Women, opened November 24, 1930. The Level 1 facility is situated on approximately 100 acres. ~~~Dwight serves a multifaceted population, consisting of reception and classification, segregation, protective custody, condemned and mental health units as well as a state-of the-art medical facility designated to provide care to pregnant and critically or terminally ill inmates.

The Enfield Correctional Institution formerly known as the Osborn Prison Farm was completed in July of 1960. It was designed to handle level 2 low-security inmates and situated on 12 acres. Enfield Correctional Institution received its first inmates in 1962. These inmates worked the surrounding farmland until 1986.The Enfield Correctional Institution serves as a level 3 medium-security facility for sentenced offenders and focuses on programming initiatives geared toward substance abuse, education and vocational instruction.In recognition of the importance of family reunification, the facility implemented a parenting program which emphasized such skills as child development, parenting styles, fathering initiatives, school readiness and positive discipline.

As of January 1, 2003, under the Florida Career Offender Registration Act, a select group of convicted felons, the "worst-of-the-worst", are required to register their residences with law enforcement and a state registry maintained by FDLE , the Career Offender Application for Statewide Tracking (COAST). These offenders, by virtue of their histories of offenses, present a threat to the public and to communities. This registration law will assist law enforcement agencies in timely apprehending a career offender, if a career offender engages again in criminal conduct. The Florida Department of Corrections is the third largest state prison system in the country with a budget of $2.4 billion, just over 100,000 inmates incarcerated and another 158,000 offenders on some type of community supervision.The Florida Dept of Corrections has 139 facilities statewide, including 60 prisons, 41 work/forestry camps, one treatment center, 30 work release centers and five road prisons. About three quarters of its staff of more than 26,000 employees are either certified correctional officers or probation officers. The average DC employee is 41 years old and has been with the agency for almost nine years. There were no prison escapes from a major prison last fiscal year.
What is now Union Correctional Institution was the original Florida State Prison and what is now known as Florida State Prison was constructed with the death chamber in 1961. Florida State Prison's title was transferred to the East Unit in 1973 and the old "flat top" Florida State Prison became Union Correctional Institution.
The Dr. Martin L. Forcht, Jr., Clinical Treatment Unit (FWCC) is a satellite facility located in the old Caddo Correctional Center near Shreveport. The 572-bed facility houses aged and infirm offenders from throughout the system and is also site of the north Louisiana IMPACT unit and the Wade Reception and Diagnostic Center (WRDC). Expansions currently underway will add a 50-bed skilled nursing unit and a new 80-bed dorm for IMPACT.
Fort Lyon Correctional Facility is located 90 miles east of Pueblo, Colorado off Highway 50. There are 36 significant buildings, 43 employee residences and 23 miscellaneous support structures on the campus for a total of approximately 579,718 GSF. The campus of FortLyon is approximately 327 acres. The 23 support structures are small buildings for water wells and other plant technology uses. Some of the buildings are listed on the historic registry.
The Four Mile Correctional Center is a minimum-restrictive security facility, opened in 1983, and currently houses 499 male inmates with a line staff of 96 and 18 other staff.
Fox Valley Adult ATC was formerly known as the Kane County Springbrook Tuberculosis Sanitarium. In April 1972, the Illinois Department of Corrections opened Fox Valley Community Correctional Center as a Level 8 work release facility housing male offenders. In August 2000, the center was converted to a female facility joining the Women and Family Services Division. The center is a single four-story brick structure housing administrative offices, counseling, volunteer and educational programs and up to 128 female residents. The first floor holds the administrative offices, dietary area and a toy room where residents can spend time with their children during visits. The third and fourth floors house the 40 resident rooms.

The Kemper Building houses a 240 bed RSAT program.Take I-20 east to Hwy 441 South to Milledgeville and go through downtown Milledgeville. The Frankfort Career Development Center is a 205-capacity minimum-security facility located in Frankfort. The majority of inmates are assigned to the Governmental Services Program Work Detail to provide a supplemental labor force for governmental agencies in the state capitol.
Fremont Correctional Facility (FCF) is a mixed custody, Level III institution that houses male offenders. Offenders confined in FCF have custody classifications ranging from minimum to administrative segregation. The facility currently houses 1,661offenders with a line staff of 431 and 76 other staff. FCF encompasses approximately 51acres and 542,000 square feet of physical plant.

This facility was established in 1932 as Florida Prison Farm #2. Inmates were sent from Florida Prison Farm #1 in Raiford to grow fresh vegetables for state institutions. In 1951 it was renamed Glades State Prison Farm. In 1961 it became Glades C.I. housing 500 adult male minimum, medium custody inmates. In 1970 it began accepting close custody inmates. In May 2009, Glades CI became a male Faith and Character Based Institution. Glades Work Camp, Loxahatchee Road Prison, West Palm Beach Work Release Center, Atlantic Work Release Center and Sago Palm Work Camp are under the supervision of Glades C.I.
Graham Correctional Center is a Level 4 medium-security adult male correctional facility located two miles southeast of Hillsboro on Route 185. Graham is located on 117 acres and has 50 buildings within the facility.
Green River Correctional Complex is a 982 bed medium / minimum security adult male correctional facility located in Central City, KY and operated by the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, Department of Corrections. Construction of GRCC was completed in 1994. The facility design is a direct supervision model, consisting of 3 medium security general population housing units with 444 double bunked cells, a maximum security segregation unit with 44 single bunked cells, and a 50 bed open dorm style minimum security unit.
The Greene County Work camp originally opened in March 1993 as the Greene County Impact Incarceration Program, a military-style boot camp, which closed in October 2002. In February 2004, the facility reopened as a work camp equipped to house up to 200 offenders who must meet stringent criteria.

Hardin County Work Camp consists of nine buildings, totaling 37,643 square feet. The living units consist of three dormitory-type housing units. The facility sits on 15.3 acres.
The Hartford Correctional Center was opened in 1977. Designed as a level 4 pretrial facility for adult males. It is situated on 10 acres. In 1990, the addition of Dormitory 1 and 2 was opened. In 1991, the addition of Dormitory 3 and 4 was opened. During 1998 and 1999 Dormitory 3 and 4 were partitioned with cages.This level 4, high-security urban jail holds primarily pretrial offenders and serves superior courts in Bristol, Enfield, Hartford, Manchester, Middletown, New Britain, Rockville and West Hartford.The Hartford Correctional Center also oversees this agency's 12-bed Medical-Surgical Ward at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. The Medical-Surgical Ward is a level 5 co-ed inpatient/outpatient program. The high security medical ward, on a yearly basis processes nearly 350 inpatients and more than 2,200 outpatients.
The Hawaii Community Correctional Center (HCCC) is a 226-bed facility located on two sites. The primary facility is situated on three acres in downtown Hilo. HCCC's reintegration program, Hale Nani, is located five miles away in the Panaewa.Hale Nani offenders' reintegration services and a work release program for sentenced inmates who will be released on the island of Hawaii. HCCC also contracts transitional community residential program services for female offenders.

The Herman L. Toulson Correctional Facility (TCF), formerly known as the Herman L. Toulson Correctional Boot Camp (TBC), located in Anne Arundel County was officially dedicated in August 1990. The facility is named in memory of Officer Herman L. Toulson who lost his life in the line of duty. TCF is designated minimum security and houses a maximum of 384 inmates.
This facility was established in the early 1950's as Brooksville Road Prison, housing close custody adult male inmates. In 1984 it was designated to house minimum and medium custody inmates. Today Hernando C.I. houses female inmates.
Hill Correctional Center is comprised of 71 acres of land, 38 acres within the security fences. The facility is situated in the southwest corner of Galesburg. The facility consists of a total of 29 buildings. The living units consist of four housing units and one orientation/receiving unit. In addition, there is one segregation unit, a 17-bed infirmary unit and two main recreational yards.
This facility was established in 1976 to house 272 minimum and medium custody youthful offender male inmates. In 1988 the mission was changed to house adult males and in 1994, it was reverted back to housing youthful offender males, ages 14-18. In 2004, Hillsborough C.I. became a female Faith- and Character-Based Institution (FCBI). The institution is also responsible for Pinellas Work Release Center and Suncoast Work Release Center.

The Howard R. Young Correctional Institution (also known as Gander Hill Prison due to the neighborhood in which it is located) is a Level 5 facility in the northeast section of Wilmington, Delaware. The facility is named for a 33-year Department veteran who died in 2001 after a battle with cancer. Originally called the Multi-Purpose Criminal Justice Facility, it was renamed in honor of Young in February 2004. Young was the first Warden of the prison when it opened in 1982.The original facility, now called the West Wing, was designed to hold 360 detainees, individuals who are awaiting trial/sentencing or unable to make bail. In 1992, a new section, the East Wing, opened. This construction project added 480 beds for sentenced offenders. Additional construction projects have increased the capacity to 1,380. The facility now averages 1,800 offenders.
ICI-O is a modified old state school and hospital mental health building. A new wing was added in 1988. It is a standard prison designed for male offenders of all custody levels. This facility also houses protective custody offenders. Until April 1994, the state's female offenders were housed in one tier here, but due to litigation, females are now housed at the Pocatello Women's Correctional Center. Offender work programs, including correctional industries, are coordinated with schooling, counseling and recreational opportunities.
IMSI opened in November 1989 to confine Idaho's most violent offenders. The compound is located within a double perimeter fence reinforced with razor wire and an electronic detection system. The offender population is comprised of a large number of mental health offenders, including civil commitments. Thirty beds are dedicated for acute mentally ill. IMSI has restrictive housing beds dedicated to administrative segregation, disciplinary detention and sentence of death. The remaining beds are allocated for close-custody general population offenders.
ISCI is the department's oldest and largest facility. It is the primary facility for long-term male, medium-custody offenders. It also has special-use beds for infirmary, outpatient mental health and geriatric offenders. The institution is surrounded by a double fence, which is patrolled by sentry dogs. There also are seven towers to monitor perimeter security and offender movement. The compound includes a chapel, recreation center, school, large correctional industries operation and a medical clinic.
Illinois River Correctional Center is a high-medium, Level 3, adult male correctional facility consisting of a total of 29 buildings, which comprise more than 409,000 square feet. The living units consist of four X-type housing units, one receiving and orientation unit, one segregation unit and a 15-bed health care unit. In addition, the center has a special management unit, which provides special security for inmates housed there. The facility sits on a 100-acre site, with 40 acres enclosed by fencing. The facility also houses general population inmates.
The Iowa Correctional Institution for Women is a medium/minimum security prison. ICIW houses inmates in its dorm-like living units and celled housing. In addition, a 60 bed return-to-confinement facility provides intensive treatment and programming of repeat offenders who have violated the terms of their probation and parole. ICIW provides educational and vocational services to inmates including Adult Basic Education, special education for eligible individuals, G. E. D., and high school diploma certification. Internal work assignments and vocational training courses in painting and a dietary managers program provide vocational training opportunities. The Iowa Department of Corrections operates nine institutions throughout Iowa. Of these, one is a maximum-security facility, one is a coed facility, and one institution is for women. The Department employs approximately 2,882 staff and supervises approximately 8,200 adult inmates in its institutions.
The Center includes a 46-bed accredited psychiatric hospital providing inpatient psychiatric and evaluation services to criminal offenders. IMCC also serves as the reception and classification center for all new commitments to the adult institutional corrections system. A medium security general population unit and a 20-bed special management unit for high-risk female offenders also are in operation at the Oakdale facility. IMCC provides psychiatric, psychological, nursing, pharmacy, pathology, education, and social services to some extent to the other institutions. Educational opportunities available to IMCC patients/inmates include instruction in General Education Development and Adult Basic Education, special education for eligible individuals, and a high school diploma may be earned.

This facility was opened in 1991 and expanded to house adult male inmates. Jackson Work Camp and Graceville Work Camp are under the supervision of Jackson C.I.
The institution consists of approximately 70 acres of which 24 acres are located within the perimeter fencing. The facility consists of 13 buildings containing in excess of 152,000 square feet. The living units consist of five housing units, one segregation unit and a 7-bed health care unit. The Jacksonville Correctional Center is also the parent institution of the Pittsfield Work Camp and Greene County Work Camp.
The JTVCC is a Level 5 (prison) facility for men located near Smyrna, Delaware, in southern New Castle County. The James T. Vaughn Correctional Center is the state's largest adult, male correctional facility. Currently, JTVCC houses approximately 2,500 inmates. JTVCC houses minimum, medium, and maximum security inmates. JTVCC is also the primary facility for housing the Kent County pre-trial (detainee) population. It also houses inmates sentenced to the death penalty. Executions are carried out at the JTVCC.

Jessie "Ma" Houston Adult Transition Center is a 200-bed Level 8 facility located in Dixmoor. The facility population consists of residents who have been classified for work release, have less than two years remaining before their mandatory supervised release and are committed to the program. Another population is impact incarceration electronic monitoring releases. This population has successfully completed an impact incarceration program, but has no host site available for electronic monitoring.
The Jessup Correctional Institution (JCI) is a maximum/medium security facility located in Anne Arundel County on approximately seven acres. The institution is divided into an administration building, supervisor and visiting suites, a multipurpose building, six housing units, Maryland Correctional Enterprises (MCE) plants, regional hospital and two warehouses.Five of the housing units are comprised of four wings and one with three wings. Each has a control center at its core. Each wing has two levels of 24 cells, a dayroom, washer/dryer and pay phones. The institution is in transition from a maximum security setting to medium security, now housing inmates who are parole violators.
The Jessup PreRelease Unit (JPRU) is located on 9.1 acres in Anne Arundel County and is ADA accessible. JPRU was initially designed with four housing units for 420 inmates. In 2002, doublebunks were added to six dormitories which houses an additional 76 inmates each. The housing units have a day/recreation room and control center. Case management specialists, the chaplain, outside detail sergeant and the property officer also have offices in the housing units. Recreational activities include an outdoor basketball court, weightlifting pad and horseshoe pit.
Consists of one Supportive Living Unit (Mental Health) housing 96 inmates, two Assisted Living Units (ALU) one housing 141 ALU inmates and the other houses 141 general population inmates. Two buildings house 96, six buildings house 104, two buildings with four pods house 192, one building houses 72 inmates in isolation/segregation, and the Fire Station houses 10 inmates.Take I-75 South to I-16. Follow I-16 to Dublin, Exit 51, turn left and follow Hwy 319 to Wrightsville. Go through two traffic lights, cross railroad tracks and turn left onto Cross Cedar Road. Cross the bridge and turn left on Donovan-Harrison Road, Johnson will be on the right.
Kankakee Minimum Security Unit (MSU), a Level 7 facility, is a satellite facility of Dwight Correctional Center. The unit can house up to 200 inmates on 23 acres of land. Kankakee MSU offenders provide public service hours in community-based programs.
The Kauai Community Correctional Center (KCCC) is a 130-bed facility. In addition to its jail functions, KCCC offers education, substance abuse treatment, religious counseling, cultural arts, and work furlough programs.
KCIW is considered multi-custody as differential housing and programming must meet the needs of females serving from one year to life, death row, maximum, medium, minimum, community custody, first offenders, persistent offenders, the disabled and special needs inmates.
The Kentucky State Penitentiary, located near Eddyville in Lyon County, is the Department's oldest and only maximum security facility. This facility houses Kentucky's Death-Row inmates.
The Kentucky State Reformatory operates under a unit management system with five (5) separate living units. The Unit Management Program is designed to foster personal relationships in smaller groups and assure inmates access to staff who are familiar with their needs. An inmate may seek personal counseling from any member of the Unit Team, which consists of a Unit Manager, an Assistant Unit Manager (if designated for the unit), Classification and Treatment Officers, and Correctional Officers. The Unit Team assists with institutional programming, case preparation for the Parole Board, classification reviews, developing release plans and problem solving. By utilizing a multi-dimensional approach, the issues of sanitation, discipline and security are well managed and problems are more easily isolated so they do not spread.
Kit Carson Correctional Center ( KCCC ) has a capacity of housing 1562 offenders which includes general population and segregation beds divided into six units. Operated privately by Corrections Corporation of America.
The Kulani Correctional Facility (KCF) is a 160-bed minimum-security prison that incorporates vocational training and specialized programming for male inmates nearing the end of their sentence. Situated on 20 acres, it opened in 1946 as a work camp.
La Vista Correctional Facility (LVCF) is a 564 bed multi-custody bed acility for adult females with 168.3 staff. The facility originally housed the Youthful Offender Program and in August 2006, that population was moved and the adult female population was established at LVCF.

This facility was established in 1971 as a co-ed juvenile detention facility. In 1979 it was converted to a youthful offender facility. Currently, it houses youthful offender male inmates. Lancaster Work Camp is under the supervision of Lancaster C.I.
Lawrence Correctional Center is a Level 2 secure-medium facility located in southeastern Illinois. The facility consists of 16 buildings, which comprise more than 364,000 square feet. The warehouse, mailroom, vehicle maintenance and maintenance departments are located outside of the perimeter fence, which assists in the safety and security of the facility. Lawrence Correctional Center consists of approximately 56 acres on a 160-acre sight. The eight housing units are T-design with a segregation unit and health care unit. The facility is ADA (American Disabilities Act) approved and houses several ADA offenders.
This facility was established in 1973 as a community vocational center housing work release inmates. In 1977 it was converted to a major institution housing adult male inmates. In 2004, Lawtey C.I. became a male Faith- and Character-Based Institution (FCBI). Dinsmore Work Release Center, Bridges of Jacksonville Work Release Center, and Shisa East Work Release Center are under the supervision of Lawtey C.I.
Consists of 11 general population units with eight rooms, each containing six beds to a room. Two units consists of 23 rooms each containing four beds to a room and two rooms with six beds each. The isolation/segregation unit has a total of 15 cells/30 beds. Four bunks can accommodate inmates who are wheelchair bound. There are 10 beds at the Fire Station for the inmate Fire team.Take I-75 south to Hwy 300 exit and turn right onto Hwy 300. Keep straight for 24 miles and then turn right onto Hwy 32 to Leesburg. At the first stop sign take a left, cross the railroad tracks and immediately bear right onto U.S. Hwy 19. Go two miles and turn left onto Pinewood Road; Lee State Prison is just past the Lee County Jail on the left.
The Lincoln Correctional Center is a Level 4 medium-security facility located in Logan County in the City of Lincoln that consists of a total of 14 buildings, which comprise approximately 25 acres. Of the 14 buildings making up the facility, 11 are located within a double security fence surrounded by five strategically located towers. The living units consist of five dorm style housing units along with a segregation unit and a 7-bed health care unit. The facility has been housing general population female offenders since Oct. 7, 2000, and is one of three facilities designated to house the adult female offender.
Little Sandy Correctional Complex is a medium security institution located in Elliott County. It is the state's newest and most technologically advanced institution. Construction began in December 2001 with the ground breaking ceremony. The institution began receiving its first female inmates in May 2005. Male inmates began arriving on July 15, 2005 and by September 2005 all female inmates were transferred.A total of 1010 inmates are currently housed in two living units at Little Sandy Correctional Complex. Logan Correctional Center is a Level 4, medium-security adult male institution located in Lincoln, 30 miles north of Springfield. Logan's living units consist of seven E-style units, three C-style units, one X-house, a segregation unit and a 15-bed infirmary health care unit. The facility encompasses 150 acres and houses general population offenders on 57 acres enclosed by fencing.
Originally accredited by American Correctional Association in 1993. LCIW houses Maximum, Medium, and Minimum custody inmates. Because LCIW is the only state prison for females, the institution has designated space for new offender intake, Death Row, IMPACT (boot camp), and residential substance abuse treatment.
ALC utilizes an aggressive classification procedure that incorporates a multifaceted process whereby individual inmates are assisted in correcting their anti-social behavior. The process spans reception, orientation, treatment planning and programming, progress assessment, reclassification, as well as preparation for release and reintegration into the community. Program staff provides a wide range of interdisciplinary services to the offender to include medical, psychiatric, psychological, social, religious, vocational, educational, and recreational programs and services within the context of the total correctional system. Another aspect of ALC's mission is to provide an effective classification program, which utilizes all of these modes of corrections, depending on each offender's needs.
The oldest state facility for women was opened in April 1956 as Florida C.I., housing all custody levels including death row. Florida C.I. originally functioned as the only reception center for female offenders. In 1973 Florida C.I. obtained the Forest Hills School for Girls from the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, which is located on the same property. This unit was utilized as a minimum custody open compound styled facility housing around 300 female inmates. The Forest Hills Unit was closed in 1997 for renovation. Levy Forestry Camp was added to Florida C.I. in 1995 as a work camp for female offenders. Its primary mission is labor for the Division of Forestry. In July 1997 C.A.M.P. Jones was opened as the only "boot camp" styled program for youthful offender females in Florida. In 1998 it was combined with Marion C.I. and in 1999 the name was changed to Lowell C.I./Women's Unit and in 2000 to Lowell C.I. Although construction began in April 1932, after suffering several funding issues, MCIH was completed in 1942. The MPCF is a medium security institution, which currently houses approximately 875 male inmates. It is designed programmatically for the treatment of male offenders with treatable character disorders and substance abuse problems. The programs focus specifically on sex offenders and substance abusers with a substance abuse program licensed by the State Department of Public Health, and are designed for preparing the inmates for transition back to the community. In addition, MPCF inmates are offered educational and vocational programs, as well as social skills classes, to prepare them for their eventual return to the community setting. The New Haven Correctional Center was opened on April 27, 1976 situated on 4.9 acres which is comprised of a main building, two dormitory units and an outside detail unit.The New Haven Correctional Center houses primarily pretrial offenders and serves the superior courts in Ansonia, Derby, Meriden, Milford, New Haven and Waterbury. New River C.I. was established in July 1987 as a result of the merger of two satellites units (New River Annex and Butler Transient Unit) of the Reception and Medical Center. The Main Unit was formally known as the New River Annex and was first occupied in October 1982 to house the overflow transient population of the Reception and Medical Center. In 1991 the mission was changed to accommodate long term inmates.The New River C.I. O-Unit (formerly Florida State Prison O-Unit) was built in 1955 as a maximum security unit housing close custody inmates. The North Central Correctional Facility houses medium and minimum custody inmates who have been classified low risk offenders, including misdemeanants and felons, which comprise approximately 80% of the population. The facility operates under the Unit Management System. Under this model an assigned Unit Manager directs all the functions of their assigned units. There are 17 inmate-housing units each with its own specific institutional function. The Unit Management System enhances safety and security by limiting inmate mass movement and providing for controlled movement during the daily institutional routines.The Osborn Correctional Institution, formerly known as the Connecticut Correctional Institution-Somers, was opened in November of 1963 as a replacement for the Old Wethersfield State Prison. It served as the state's maximum-security prison and as the Reception/Diagnostic Center for incoming male inmates statewide. The physical plant is located on 550 acres adjacent to the Northern Correctional Institution.
Otter Creek Correctional Center is located in the town of Wheelwright, Kentucky, with a population of 1,048 (as of the 2000 census). Wheelwright is a historic coal mining camp town, characterized by coal camp town "row houses." Wheelwright's rural beauty is offset by its remoteness, the nearest large city being an hour's drive from Wheelwright. After the consolidation of two local high schools, the CCA facility is now by far the largest employer in the town. This prison is owned and run by CCA.
The Peoria Adult Transition Center is located at 607-613 Main St., Peoria, Ill. The facility is a renovated three-story brick structure that is leased from the private sector. The center's association with the city of Peoria has existed for more than 30 years. The center houses 200 male offenders and has a staffing complement of 48 employees and five contractual employees. A center supervisor and two assistant supervisors of operations and programs administer the center.
The Pittsfield Work Camp opened in September 1996 and can house up to 400 offenders who must meet stringent criteria. The work crew program at Pittsfield has continued to grow and cover numerous requests. Pittsfield also offers ABE (Adult Basic Education), Pre GED (General Education Development) and GED education as well as Custodial Floor Maintenance and Job Preparedness classes to better prepare offenders for reintegration into society.

The Rifle Correctional Center is a 192 bed, minimum security prison located on a 73 acre site in rural Garfield County, eight miles from the city of Rifle. Rifle provides community labor, but also occupies inmates in a variety of programs including, secondary education, vocational training and a reintegration program intended to reduce recidivism. The prison is home to a certified firefighting crew which has responded to wildfires all over the state. The prison has a full-time staff of 57 employees.
The facility is comprised of 23 buildings, which provide more than 200,000 square feet of serviceable space. This includes six housing units, each containing 10 dormitory rooms, an administration building, control center, mailroom, armory and main gate. Also included are an academic/vocation building, a multi-purpose building with a gym and non-denominational chapel, a medical unit, segregation unit, food service building and a building housing identification, personal property, commissary and laundry. Outside the perimeter fence sits a maintenance building, warehouse and a training facility. The entire complex occupies approximately 100 acres.

It houses sentenced offenders and provides a great emphasis on programming and education.The Robinson Correctional Institution offers a wide assortment of programming for inmates including intensive in-patient substance abuse treatment and a full menu of educational and vocational programming including culinary arts, machine tooling, small engine repair and community college courses.The Robinson Correctional Institution was opened on November 8, 1985 named after Carl Robinson, the former Warden at the Somers Correctional Institution. It is situated on 1,700 acres, which is the site of an historic Shaker Farm Community.
The Roxbury Correctional Institution (RCI) is a medium security institution in a rural setting encompassing 40 acres within a doublefenced enclosure. Construction began on July 17, 1982 and received its first 30 inmates on October 28, 1983. It includes 11 structures and is flanked on the exterior perimeter by 8 towers, 2 of which are operated 24/7. Additional security measures include infiltration sensor technology and occasional use of a regional K9 unit. The majority of inmates are from the Baltimore/Washington area with an average age of 35.6 and an average sentence length of 19.9 years.
Saguaro Correctional Center (SCC) is a multi-level security facility owned and operated by Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). SCC is not a local, state or federal institution. It is a correctional facility contracted to house Hawaii State inmates. SCC does not have the power to release any offenders, other than by orders of the State of Hawaii or a court of competent jurisdiction. SCC provides a safe and secure environment for Hawaiian inmates. The institution is located halfway between Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona on State Highway 87 in Eloy, Arizona. Casa Grande, Arizona, is the closest metropolitan area with lodging and food available.
San Carlos Correctional Facility ( SCCF ) is located on the campus of the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo Colorado. SCCF supports a capacity of 255 special needs offenders. San Carlos consists of three main buildings with 137,000 square feet. The cost of construction to include start up funds and equipment allocations totaled $22,600,000.00. A 250 bed expansion has been approved for San Carlos Correctional Facility increasing the beds to 505.
The Shawnee Correctional Center is a high-medium, Level 3, security facility, housing adult male felons and is located in rural Johnson County in extreme southern Illinois. The center is also responsible for a satellite facility, the Hardin County Work Camp, located near Cave-in-Rock. Shawnee Correctional Center consists of a 24 buildings, totaling 369,029 square feet. The living units consist of four X-type units, one receiving and orientation unit, two segregation units and a 16-bed health care unit. The facility sits on 60 acres with 40 acres inside the fence.
Sheridan Correctional Center is located approximately 70 miles west of Chicago in LaSalle County and was originally constructed in 1941 as a juvenile facility. On Aug. 13, 1973, it was converted to an adult facility. Sheridan Correctional Center was closed from Aug. 15, 2002, until it reopened on Jan. 2, 2004. Sheridan Correctional Center consists of a total of 75 buildings, which comprise more than 600,000 square feet. There are 13 housing units and a 9-bed health care unit. The facility sits on 270 acres with 80 acres inside the perimeter fencing. The facility houses general population offenders.
The CMC labor crews are utilized for reclamation, beautification and maintenance of the East Canon Complex infrastructure, its buildings, lands and resources. There are 58 line staff and 7 other staff. SCC provides inmates for Correctional Industry programs to include farm, fish, and chickens.
The SBWCC opened in March 2002 at the site of a former community work center. This is a program-specific, minimum-custody facility designed for female offenders sentenced to a retained jurisdiction commitment by the court. It provides a sentencing alternative for the courts to target those offenders who might, after a period of programming and evaluation, be viable candidates for probation rather than incarceration.

The second floor contains the security office, life skills development area, counselor offices and business office.
The Southern Maryland PreRelease Unit (SMPRU) is located in a rural setting in Charles County with 40,000 square feet and sits on 112.7 acres. Originally built to house 120 inmates, the facility can house 180 inmates in three doublebunked dormitories. In 1980, an administration building was added to house case management, medical, religion, education, general administration and other programming.

This work camp, located in the small, eastern Idaho town of St. Anthony, is designed for low-risk, minimum- and community-custody male offenders. The program focus is to provide a work therapy program offering full-time, constructive, paid employment to offenders through contracted work and public service projects with government agencies, non-profit organizations and private employers.
The facility sits on a total of 2,264 acres of land with a 33-foot wall with guard towers surrounding it. This adult male maximum-security facility consists of a 22-bed infirmary in the health care unit and three living units that house general population, segregation, protective custody and temporary writ inmates. The Northern Reception and Classification Center (NRC) functions as the major adult male intake and processing unit for the entire state. The NRC contains 1,800 beds in 24 housing units. Within the NRC is also the minimum-security unit, which can house up to 400 offenders in two units.
The Steve Hoyle Rehabilitation Center (SHRC), a satellite facility in Tallulah, has a capacity of 260 inmates. The unit is organized as a therapeutic community to house and treat offenders with multiple DWI convictions or other substance abuse histories. The intensive 12- to 24-month treatment program consists of multiple phases promoting behavior modification supported by reintegration, relapse prevention, and aftercare services.
This facility was established in 1965 to house minimum and medium custody youthful offender male inmates. Currently it houses adult male inmates. Sumter Boot Camp, which houses youthful offender male inmates, Sumter Forestry Camp, and Sumter Work Camp are under the supervision of Sumter C.I.
Located within the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) in Georgetown, Delaware, the $3.7 million Boot Camp opened April 15, 1997. Thirty inaugural offenders (28 men and 2 women) were transferred from various Department of Correction facilities. The Sussex Boot Camp houses 100 cadets, 90 men and 10 women. Men and women are segregated from each other; housed at opposite ends of the Boot Camp building.The Boot Camp provides military-style discipline through a highly regimented routine of physical exercise, education, substance-abuse treatment and community service. It is focused on behavior modification and rehabilitation of young offenders.The Sussex Boot Camp is a six-month program divided into three phases. The Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) is located in Georgetown, Delaware. Opened in 1931, SCI is one of Delaware's oldest correctional facilities. SCI houses maximum, medium, and minimum security inmates. SCI houses an all-male population. Additionally, Delaware's only Boot Camp is located on the grounds of the Sussex Correctional Institution. The Boot Camp is a 100-bed facility accommodating 90 men and 10 women.A major expansion project was recently completed at SCI. Between April 1997 and April 2000, 760 beds were added to the facility. This includes the 100-bed Boot Camp. The expansion brought the total capacity of the institution to 1206. SCI is also home to the nationally recognized substance abuse treatment program called KEY. Construction began on Main Unit/Annex and Work Camp in July 2007. The Main Unit and Annex is contractor constructed. The Work Camp is force account (inmate) constructed. The Work Camp is now operational. The Main Unit opened in December 2009 and the Annex will follow sometime in early 2010.
Tamms Correctional Center consists of a 500-bed C-Max security facility and a 200-bed minimum-security unit (MSU). The MSU provides offender work crews for a number of municipalities. MSU offenders also provide labor for maintenance, housekeeping and grounds keeping for the main facility. The facility is situated on 236 acres of land just north of Tamms on Route 127 in Alexander County. Twenty-four acres are occupied by the C-Max physical plant, which is surrounded by a 12-foot high double-barbed wire security fence.
This facility was established in 2002 to house youthful male inmates. In June, 2005 it was converted to an adult male facility. Taylor Annex is under the supervision of Taylor C.I.
Taylorville Correctional Center is a Level 5, high minimum-security facility located on Illinois Route 29, 30 miles southeast of Springfield. The facility opened in 1990. In 1995, the facility was designated as a security threat group (STG)-free facility, housing offenders with no affiliations to an STG. Taylorville Correctional Center's experience has been that offenders who are STG-free readily respond to population management techniques and commit fewer rule infractions than those associated with STGs. Also important in managing the population is programs provided by the facility. These programs assist with population management and provide opportunities for inmates to improve their life and work skills to enhance their chance of success upon release.
Telfair-There are six housing units with double-bunked cells. The seventh housing unit consists of single cells for isolation/segregation inmates.Take I-75 south to I-I6 East to Exit 51, Dublin. Milan houses medium and below security inmates with special emphasis on programmatic needs, especially alcohol/drug addiction and education.Milan SP is about 10 miles from Telfair SP, after turning right onto Hwy 441, go about 30 miles through the city of McRae and exit onto Hwy 280 towards Milan. The Trinidad Correctional Facility is located on 640 acres and houses 480 offenders with line staff of 135 and 15 other staff. The facility consists of a Support Services Building, Programs Building, Waste Water Treatment Plant, Maintenance Building and five offender housing units. The emphasis of this facility is the development of good work habits and work skills through the utilization of work assignments both in the facility and in the community. In addition, each offender is provided the opportunity to address their programmatic needs prior to eventual re-entry back into society.
In July of 1972, the East Unit became a separate institution and was renamed Florida State Prison. The original Florida State Prison became Union Correctional Institution. In 1975, a "modern" new housing area, consisting of thirteen separate units, was constructed and designated the Southwest Unit. In 1985, the Southeast Unit was completed and "The Rock" was simultaneously closed by federal court order. In 1992, a new Death Row housing unit was built and inmates relocated from Florida State Prison. Currently Union C.I. houses adult male inmates.This facility was established in 1913 as temporary stockades to house infirmed inmates who could not be leased to private businesses. The Vandalia Correctional Center, located 85 miles southeast of Springfield, was established as the original prison farm operation in Illinois housing entirely misdemeanor offenders. The center has a dorm-type setting with 113 buildings, totaling 412,000 square feet. Total acreage is 1,520 with eight acres contained within the perimeter fence.
The Vienna Correctional Center, located in southern Illinois, is adjacent to the Shawnee National Forest. The Vienna Correctional Center is a Level 6 security facility. Vienna Correctional Center sits on 3,500 acres with 40 acres being enclosed by fences. Vienna Correctional Center is the parent facility to the Dixon Springs-Impact Incarceration Program (IIP), which is located in Pope County.
This facility was established in 1996 and houses adult male inmates. Wakulla Work Camp and Wakulla Annex are under the supervision of Wakulla Correctional Institution. In 2005, Wakulla C.I. became a male Faith- and Character-Based Institution (FCBI).

Webster Correctional Institution opened on October 29, 1990. It has remained as a level 2 pre-release institution since it opened. The Western Correctional Institution (WCI) is located in Allegany County. Construction began in April 1994 and was completed in January 1999? however, WCI began housing inmates in July 1996. WCI is designated as a maximum security institution but houses all security levels. A number of minimum security inmates perform jobs outside of the secure perimeter under the supervision of correctional staff. These outside jobs include road crews working in both Allegany and Garrett counties.
The Western Illinois Correctional Center houses general population inmates. The center has 21 buildings inside a perimeter fence surrounding 32 acres. The buildings include four housing units, administration building, health care unit, a receiving and segregation unit, dietary department, a warehouse and maintenance complex, a multi-purpose building housing academic, vocational and gymnasium, and a Correctional Industry meat processing plant.
The Western Kentucky Correctional Complex, located in Lyon County, is a 673 man medium security facility which includes a 180-bed minimum security unit. The minimum security inmates maintain a 2,300 acre farm and provide several community work details.
The mission of West Side Adult Transition Center is to provide within the guidelines of appropriate custodial care, a continuum of programs and services for the male offender, who transitions from an institution to an adult transition center, to the community and discharge from parole that addresses the unique medical, social, psychological and educational needs of the committed male.
The Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution was formerly two separate facilities, the Willard Correctional Institution and the Cybulski Correctional Institution. The Willard Correctional Institution was opened on October 18, 1990 as a level 2 facility for sentenced male offenders. The Cybulski Correctional Institution was opened on November 3, 1993 as a program intensive, male level 2 facility. As part of its agency directed mandate to provide community service support, the facility has placed more than 150 inmates daily, in supervised community based public service projects and work details. They have provided maintenance, assisting with community events, renovations and painting to communities, the state and local non-profit agencies.The Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution continues its mission to prepare offenders for release back into the community with a wide number of programs and opportunities. WCCC is the only women's prison in Hawaii. It also serves the needs of pre-trial and sentenced female offenders. The facility houses female offenders who are of maximum, medium and minimum custody levels.
The Wyoming State Penitentiary consists of a high security/special needs prison (referred to as the South Facility), the administration and warehouse/maintenance buildings, and the Central Production Facility (kitchen/laundry). The South Facility was originally designed to be in addition to the North Facility, a prison that was opened in 1980 that housed approximately 500 medium security inmates. Due to life/safety issues, the North Facility cell and office areas were vacated at the same time the South Facility opened on July 21, 2001. All industries and vocational spaces at the North Facility were closed as well.The Wyoming Medium Correctional Facility is being built in Torrington, Wyoming. It will open in January 2010 and will have the capacity to house 700 medium custody male inmates. It will then perform the department's initial reception and assessment, removing that function from the Wyoming State Penitentiary. The Niantic Correctional Institution was founded in 1918 as the Connecticut State Farm and Reformatory for Women. In 1930 an addition added to the population capacity and the facility was renamed the Niantic Correctional Institution. With the transfer of women from the State Prison in Wethersfield, it became only correctional institution for women in Connecticut.The York Correctional Institution is a high-security facility. It serves as the state's only institution for female offenders. It serves all superior courts in Connecticut and manages all pretrial and sentenced female offenders, whatever their security level.The programming units at the facility have an extensive array of positive interventions for the population, including the 80-bed intensive, inpatient drug treatment unit, the Marilyn Baker House. An Hospice program trains inmate volunteers to provide end of life care to fellow offenders.

This facility was established in the 1930's as a road prison. In 1972 it was converted to a work release center. In 1977 it was converted to a major institution and expanded to house adult male inmates. In October 1999, Zephyrhills CI took on the corrections mental health institution mission.
The Ada County Jail was built in 1977 when the Ada County-Boise City Public Safety Building first opened. The jail was originally built to hold a maximum of 160 inmates, plus 32 work release prisoners.The jail has been expanded several times since then. Today, the total inmate capacity is 1144.
The correction facility is located on the top floor of the Adams County Courthouse and has a capacity of 120. There are 22 full time correction officers who staff the corrections facility.
The Department of the Jail is a 920 bed, 314,000 square foot facility which incarcerates adult male and female offenders for up to one year. The core facility was completed in January 1994.In 2007, two renovations were completed which added 60 additional beds to the facility (40 beds in C Zone and 20 beds in D Zone). This raised the number of beds to 980; and, with a classification factor of 15%, the optimal number of inmates to be housed is 833. In addition, groundbreaking has been held for a new 168 bed addition, which should be completed by the Fall of 2008. This will increase the total number of beds to 1,148; and, after a classification factor of 15%, the optimum number of inmates that can be housed after the new construction is completed is 975.
The Detention Center is currently located in Cresaptown, Maryland in the new Direct Supervision facility for which the Grand Opening was held in April of 2002. This new state of the art facility will accommodate 300 inmates upon completion of phase two construction at a later date. The new facility is located at 14300 McMullen Highway (U.S. Rt. 220 south) in Cresaptown, Maryland.
The new jail holds 64 housing beds, 10 work release beds, a booking area with vehicle sallyport, a cooking kitchen commercial style laundry, offices and support spaces for the jail, a large property storage room, sheriff staff offices, records room, evidence storage, conference rooms, maintenance area and a basement for use as the 911 dispatch area.
The new $77 million state-of-the-art building opened May 5, 2006. This facility was constructed to meet modern correctional standards and can house approximately 1500+ inmates. The consolidation of correctional resources on one site allows the Department to maximize efficiencies in service delivery for inmates and safety. Housing unit design allows for the secure housing of inmates with various security levels. The new institution enhances safeguarding our communities by increasing our ability to secure lawbreakers safely in an efficient structure.
The Bibb County Jail inmates have either been charged or convicted of misdemeanors or felony crimes. Inmate sentences over one year are served in other facilities run by the State or Federal Government.
The Bibb County Detention Center is a Work Release and Community Service Center. The Detention Center presently has approximately 192 beds, some are assigned to the work release program while others are assigned to the community service program. The purpose of the work release program is to allow the detainees to continue to work in the private sector in order to pay off fines and restitutions ordered by the courts, it also allows them the opportunity to continue to support their families. This type of program lessens the burden of the taxpayers who would have to bear the cost of what it would be to house these individuals on a full time basis.
The Brevard County Jail Complex is owned and maintained by the Board of County Commissioners and is operated by the Sheriff. The Jail is accredited through the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission.The main jail opened in 1986 with beds for 386 inmates. Today, the Jail Complex routinely houses over 1,800 inmates daily with 1,321 permanent inmate beds. The Jail Complex consists of a Booking area, Housing areas, Medical Ward, Laundry facility, Courtroom, Visiting areas, Recreation area, and office/support areas. In addition to the maximum security main jail there are three tents housing inmates (with a fourth tent to open in 2008), a Women's Jail, and a mental health/medical facility to also open in 2008. This will bring the total number of permanent beds to 1709.
The current Butler County Detention Facility opened in January of 2003. It is a modern 250-bed facility located one mile east of El Dorado, south of US Highway 54 on Stone Road. The facility employees 61 full time detention officers and houses inmates from not only Butler County, but also supplies beds to the US Marshals Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service, and various other outside agencies.
The Caddo Correctional Center is a full service jail rated at a capacity of 1070 beds. Designed to successfully manage large number of inmates with a minimum of personnel, the Caddo Correctional Center is the largest jail in the Ark-La-Tex and the only "direct supervision" facility in the State of Louisiana.

The Detention Center takes the necessary steps to securely maintain custody of those offenders in compliance with all applicable federal, state and county statutes and standards.
The Carroll County Detention Center is a full-service correctional facility. Sentenced offenders are incarcerated for a maximum of 18 months; offenders with sentences greater than that are transferred to the Maryland Department of Public Safety/Division of Corrections. Alternatives to incarceration are offered, to include, Pretrial Services, Home Detention, Treatment Diversion Programs and Work Release.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Central Detention Center, formerly known as the Stockade, it is situated on a twenty-acre complex on Fairgrounds Road in suburban West Palm Beach. The facility was originally constructed in 1954 to house 56 county sentenced inmates under the operation of the Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety. The Central Detention Center has undergone expansion each decade since and currently houses inmates of minimum, medium, and maximum custody levels in ten separate buildings with a capacity of 989 inmates. Currently, additional construction and expansion are also underway. In 1977 control of the Central Detention Center was assumed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and it is currently the 2nd largest of the counties three correctional facilities.
Housed within BSO's Main Jail Bureau, the Central Intake Unit handles booking, records maintenance, release, transport, temporary housing and court activities of inmates within the Broward County jail system. Three satellite booking facilities, located throughout the county, also process inmates who are then transferred to the Main Jail pending court hearings. The Central Intake Unit handles bookings for all Broward County law enforcement agencies.The facility also operates the Juvenile Intervention Facility, oversees the Baker Act and Confinement Status units and provides security details for medical transports.
The Detention Center is a secure facility for incarcerating adults. Stretching 135,000 square feet, it was built to maintain inmates in 203 cells. The Corrections Division also operates an annex adjacent to the main facility which houses work release and weekend inmates.
The Charlotte County Jail is located at 26601 Airport Road in South Charlotte County and is designed to house 608 inmates. The facility opened in February of 2001 and is a direct supervision jail. A direct supervision jail differs from the conventional approach because the officer is stationed inside the housing unit. This concept encourages direct interaction between staff and inmates to prevent negative behavior, and it groups inmates into living units that can house up to 84 inmates that can be efficiently managed. The jail is a full service facility with kitchen, laundry, medical and dental services. The facility is equipped with a video courtroom for first appearances, arraignments and bond hearings. The facility is accredited through the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The Facility is recognized as meeting the Florida Jail Model Standards and applicable Florida Statutes.
The Clarke County Jail is a temporary holding facility for persons arrested for criminal offenses or local ordinance violations, persons being held for probation/parole violation, contempt of court, or offenses committed in another county or state, and offenders sentenced to incarceration in the jail or another correctional facility.
The Jail is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days a week. When a prisoner is brought to the Jail they are processed. If the charges are bondable, they are given the opportunity to do so before being placed in population. If they are charged with a felony, they are held in Jail until they have the opportunity to see the judge unless a bond has been previously set.
The Community Release Center is a 92 bed facility which houses male inmates who are sentenced to the county jail for 364 days or less. Inmates housed in this facility are allowed to participate in the work release program; provided they meet the facility criteria or they will be assigned to a county work squad.
This facility houses county sentenced male and female inmates participating in the Work Furlough and Substance Abuse Treatment programs and some county sentenced inmates assigned to this facility.
The Cook County DOC administers eleven separate jail divisions, house nearly 10,000 inmates and employs more than 3800 correctional offices and support staff.
The design of this 196-bed, 107,000 square foot facility was based on a direct supervision pod concept, developed to allow the largest number of inmates to be directly supervised with the fewest staff possible.
The Sheriff's Office Video Visitation Center is located on the premises of the Falkenburg Road Jail, 520 North Falkenburg Road, Tampa, FL 33619 at the south end of the property.
All female inmates, including female juveniles who are being tried as adults, are held in this facility. The Female Detention Center became operational in March of 2003. It is a 652-bed facility consisting of both max-level lockdown cells and direct-supervision dormitories.
The Flagler County Inmate Facility is comprised of four housing units with a rated capacity of 132 inmates. The inmate population is made up of sentenced and non-sentenced inmates who are incarcerated for any number of crimes ranging from theft and trespassing to drug trafficking and murder.
Committed to the county jail are prisoners who may be charged with any type of crime or violation, including homicide, rape, DUI, trespass, etc. The Sheriff is responsible to assure that all prisoners are kept secure and properly cared for. He must continually conform to numerous rules and regulations set forth by Florida Law, such as providing contact visitation, education and rehabilitation.
The Detention Center is currently located in Oakland, Maryland and remains the only holding facility in the County. The facility can house up to 64 inmates and holds both pre-trial and sentenced inmates of all security classifications.

The original facility can hold up to 1,226 inmates, and the new tower has added 1,368 new beds to the site. We also have an additional 174 specialty beds that are designed to hold maximum-security inmates, medical inmates and disciplinary inmates. The total capacity for the jail is now 2,768 beds. The facility at present has a total population of more than 2,400 inmates.
Near the end of 2006, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department completed and opened the new "Wimberly" Tower. The Tower was named after Deputy Ken Wimberly who was tragically killed in the line of duty. This new construction is part of the expansion plan for the Gwinnett County Jail. Overcrowding at the original direct supervision facility forced the county to add more bed space to the existing site. The first was the completion of the "Wimberly" Tower and the second will be an additional tower at some future date. The first inmates were moved into the first floor of this four-level building on October 23, 2007. On February 27 of 2007, the remaining inmates who had been housed out to other agencies due to overcrowding were brought back to Gwinnett and housed in the new tower.
The Detention Facility is designed to house a maximum of 190 male, female or juvenile inmates. The Detention Facility has thirty (30) cells in various cell sizes to facilitate and assist in housing inmates with different categories of inmate classifications.The Detention Facility is designed with an internal Courtroom integrated with a Closed Circuit Television connection to the Hardee County Courthouse. The Closed Circuit Television connection allows for court proceedings to take place in the Detention Facility reducing the need to move inmates from the Detention Facility to the Courthouse.
The Harford County Detention Center opened in 1973 with a capacity of 100 inmates. Alterations and additions were constructed over the years with the last expansion opening in 1997, increasing the capacity to 474. Thirty-three beds are considered temporary housing and are not included in the capacity total. Those beds are reserved for classification housing, isolation, and medical cells. Yet another expansion is in the final stages with construction scheduled to begin during the summer of 2008 which will add 288 beds to the facility for a total capacity of 762.

The Joseph V. Conte Facility is a male, medium-custody facility housing mainly inmates awaiting trial. Conte is a direct supervision facility, meaning deputies are stationed inside the housing units and interact directly with inmates. Meals, recreation, counseling, treatment programs and medical care are provided within the housing units, eliminating the need to escort inmates to other areas to receive them. The Conte Facility is program intensive and includes 30 and 60 day substance abuse programs, the court ordered ISAP and ATACC programs, as well as various educational programs.Built at a cost of $25.5 million, the facility houses 1,328 inmates and is staffed by 231 law enforecement and civilian personnel.The facility is named for Joseph Conte, a 47-year-old BSO detention deputy, killed in the line of duty in July 1979.

The Main Jail is an eight-story maximum security facility adjacent to the Broward County Courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Built in 1985 at a cost of $41.6 million, it was originally designed to house 864 local and state inmates. In 1988 and again in 1992, capacity was expanded to 1,538 inmates. More than 400 sworn and civilian staff supervise the facility which also includes Central Intake (inmate booking) for all Broward County law enforcement agencies, pre-magistrate, Centralized Classification Intake assessment for all BSO detention facilities, an infirmary and administrative offices.An all-male facility, most inmates are awaiting trial or sentencing, or are serving terms of less than one year. The inmates housed in the Main Jail are considered escape risks, violent or dangerous, or by the nature of their charges require maximum security housing. The Main Jail also includes an average of 65 juveniles awaiting trial in adult courts; they are housed separately from adult inmates.
The Operations Division consists of 189 certified positions and 92 civilian positions, and includes four squads of Corrections Deputies and CRO's who are responsible for the care, custody, and control of approximately 1300 inmates housed in the pods.
The Detention Facility is a 356 bed state of the art direct supervision facility and provides food service and 24-hour medical care to inmates. First time advisements are conducted from inside the facility using a televised video system. For other court proceedings, inmates are escorted between the facility and the Mesa County Justice Center via a secure internal passageway.

The Osceola County Correctional Facility was constructed in 1986, and renovated during 1998 and 1999. The renovations included the refurbishing of the administrative, intake and medical areas, along with the addition of two direct supervision areas, multi-purpose areas and a kitchen. The main facility has 723 beds. In 1999, an existing building was renovated to become a Work Release Center, with 48 beds and a 120-bed dormitory-style housing area for minimum security inmate workers. The medical unit has two negative air flow cells, six segregation cells, ten beds in the male medical bay and two beds in the female medical bay. The facility has a total bed capacity of 873, including medical and temporary segregation units.
The main Pasco County Detention Center, located at 20101 Central Blvd. in Land O' Lakes, was dedicated on March 1, 1991. The detention center, including Sheriff's Office administrative sections, contains 224,330 square feet.This center is a two-story, reinforced masonry facility consisting of three inmate housing pods and a central administrative and support core. Each housing unit contains a total of 96 cells divided into six 16-cell units, each with a dayroom space. Each pod has one handicap cell, with one pod containing eight cells designated for higher risk inmates. All cells are equipped with double bunks. The facility has been designed for expansion with the future addition of three housing pods, for an ultimate capacity of about 1,500 inmates.

Conte Facility in Pompano Beach, the $36.6 million complex is a direct supervision jail where staff works more closely with inmates and inmate movement is kept to a minimum.Designed to handle 1,020 inmates in two four-story towers, the 257,790 square foot medium / maximum security jail houses male and female inmates in separate areas.The Paul Rein Detention Facility, like all the BSO jails, provides inmates with nearly two-dozen different specialty diets including Kosher, vegetarian, high-calorie and low-calorie, prepared daily to meet the needs of the prisoners.Because of direct supervision, higher security risk inmates don't have to leave their housing unit for visitation. A non-breakable window separates the housing unit from a visitation area and inmates and visitors can talk on a built-in telephone.

UPS provides the County and District courts with sentencing alternatives beneficial to the community and appropriate for violators of petty offenses, misdemeanors and felonies. The Pre-Trial Detention Center is a Booking Facility, which processes and houses all classifications of inmates. These range from traffic offenders to capital offenders. The facility has 1,712 beds.
The Pueblo County Detention Bureau was opened and dedicated in 1980, built for 189 inmates. A need for more beds initiated double bunking in 1993. In 2006, a much needed expansion to the existing jail was opened and houses inmates in a dormitory direct supervision housing unit. This unit was built to house an additional 320 inmates. In 2007 Sheriff Taylor was given authority by the Pueblo County Commissioners to spend 1.2 million dollars in security up grades to include: security doors, cameras, control room renovations and video visitation. The Work Release Program is housed off-sight at The CMHIP alleviating overcrowding. These upgrades were needed to run a more safe and secure facility for the community. A pod is a separate holding area containing cells, restroom facilities, showers and a day room where the inmates eat and spend a majority of their time.The pods vary in cell numbers allowing the corrections officers to categorize the inmates. The inmates are categorized as male, female, work release, pre-sentenced, sentenced, misdemeanors, felons, and federal holds. The West Detention Center is located in Belle Glade, Florida, forty-five miles west of PBSO Headquarters in West Palm Beach. The West Detention Center houses all custody levels to include minimum, medium and maximum custody inmates. The facility was originally constructed and opened in 1983 with a bed capacity of 103 and was expanded in 1997 to its present capacity of 256 beds. The division operates as a "stand alone" facility, encompassing all aspects of a county detention facility including property, intake, booking and release, as well as classification, visitation and inmate housing.
The Will County Adult Detention facility originally opened its doors in March of 1989, has completed a $70 million dollar expansion of the facility in May of 2009. The original 156,000 square foot building was expanded to 318,000 square feet, adding 10 new housing units and increasing capacity of the jail from 322 inmates to over 1000 inmates. The facility is located in the downtown area of the county seat of Will County, which is Joliet Illinois. The facility is constructed in an architectural style called "podular". The podular architecture clusters inmate cells around a common day room, exercise area, and visitation room.
The Women's Detention Center has 375 beds. It averages a daily population of between 300-375 female inmates. Inmates held at this facility vary from pre-trial detainees to sentenced inmates. Women's Detention Center is an accredited facility.

Construction on the New Detention Center began in 1989 and opened its doors in February 1990. Since then, more than 100,000 individuals have been booked in and out of the Center. It contains bed space for 289 males and 38 females. When the facility hits maximum capacity, individuals are sent to and housed at other counties . The detainee population consists mostly of pre-trial offenders, which means that they are awaiting trial and sentencing on the offense for which they are being prosecuted. After their trials, depending on the severity of their defenses, they serve their time at the Wyandotte County Detention Center or at a State facility.
